Sunday, October 29, 2006Halloween BlogHello Blog fans. Has it really been 2 weeks since I last updated? I'm sorry! I have just been too busy/lazy to get around to it and nothing super noteworthy has happened. This weekend I had a double header. Purdy's parents were in town, so Friday night we all headed out to Westboro to check out a local establishment named the Trio Lounge. I had been there once before last summer, and after another great experience I wish I had gone more often in the past year. We all had some amazing stories to tell that night, including billion dollar land deals and open heart surgery. Ask me to tell them sometime and I will spin you a good yarn. After Trio, we tried to get into Whispers but they would not let us, claiming they were closing at one. The place was still busy, and last call in Ottawa is 2am, so I guess they just like losing money. We didn't mind though, as the second option was the Carleton Tavern which never disapoints and would never refuse to serve you. We shut that place down and walked home in the rain. Another successful night out in Hintonburg/Westboro. Saturday night I had a Halloween party to attend, but first things first I was back over at Purdy's for an incredible dinner!! I was stuffed and full of wine, but at 10 I finally decided to crawl over to the party (which was luckily only one block over). I knew most of the people there and had some fun hanging out and showing off my incredible costume. There were prizes for different categories, but I think I split the funny and original votes and didn't win either category. Boo. It's not every year you see such an incredible Magnum P.I. costume. ![]() Since daylight savings time ended, I got an extra hour today to do nothing. I managed to squeeze in both the Da Vinci Code and Nacho Libre as well as an incredible nap. I think the nap was the wisest investment as neither movie was terribly good. I will do my best to blog more often. I value your continued support. Monday, October 16, 2006Vote for your Favourite TorontonianWell I survived Toronto, despite the best attempts of numerous crazy people and insane cab drivers. Among the crazy people I met this weekend: 1) Cab driver who talked non stop for about 15 minutes straight about numerous miracle cures, including drinking vinegar with water and a magic pill that seems to cure everything from cancers to making you smart. He claimed he wasn't in it for the money, but then he conveniently gave us the information of where we could go to buy it. As Mullins said after getting out of the cab, "I can't remember what my life was like without that guy talking." 2) The Cab driver who refused to take us where we wanted to go and kicked us out since we weren't going far enough to make it worth his time and the cab driver who was in line after him, but locked his doors when we tried to get in…we were blacklisted. We had to walk 5 minutes in the freezing cold and eat terrible pizza after the bar. It made me sad. 3) The cab driver who had some great 80's music playing on the radio and got into the groove when Jill honked his horn twice for him in rhythm with Boney M's Rasputin. This guy was alright. 4) The cab driver who had some techno beats pumping and decided to blast his stereo to full blast when he saw the slightest head motion of approval come from Mullins in the back seat. The music fueled this guys driving ability, as he took Toronto on at break neck speeds and was probably seconds away from multiple accidents. We should have suspected he'd be nuts when he did the uturn in the middle of a busy street to pick us up. 5) The crazy guy at Pizza Pizza who got a slice of peperoni pizza, ate half of it, decided it was terrible, went and paid for it, complained and got a free replacement slice, complained that slice wasn't heated up enough, complained when that slice was eventually given to him on cardboard rather than a proper tray and was just beligerant in general towards the poor fella working the counter at 3AM. He was still there complaining when we left, but I hope he left that place satisfied eventually. 6) TV guy, who was waiting at Pizza Pizza during the above scene and decided to strike up a conversation. He was picking up pizza and chicken wings for the girl he had waiting for him back at his apartment. None of us believed there was a girl back at his apartment. He was a great talker and had an interesting story for everything. He hates the neighbourhood he lives in, but it is the same one as Erin G so hopefully she runs into him again and they can have another great chat!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As a side note, last night, back in the safety of Ottawa I went to see Lewis Black's live stand up at the NAC. He's most famous lately for his appearances on the Daily Show, and he is pretty hilarious live as well. He had a great opening act too (who I can't remember the name of) who was equally hilarious. It was a good 2 hours of laughter and well worth the $45 ducat. Saturday, October 14, 2006Remote Broadcast - TorontoThis weekend I am in Toronto. Last night I put on my most fashionable clothing, called up my most beautiful friends and headed to the Entertainment District for a night of debauchery. We decided to throw the 'Devil's Martini' a bone and grace them with our presence. No waiting in line for us...we walked right in with the usual nod to the bouncer. I happily threw $7 down on a drink and found a good place to lean to survey the room. I had about a million places I could have been and I think people were intrigued by my 'I'm too good for this place' vibe. My button up shirt and fashionable jeans really stood out among the crowd and got me noticed. I chatted up all the most beautiful ladies in the room and showed off my best dance moves (it just comes naturally to me). I have to at least give them credit for supplying an incredible music mix. After last call we bounced out of there ASAP and left everybody wanting more. Just another night in the big city. Okay. Most of that is a lie other than the fact I am in Toronto (or the Big Lie as I like to call it) and we went to that place last night. It is the biggest creep factory in the world. It is sometimes referred to as 'The Mantini' and I understand why. One girl we were with, who is engaged, had to fend off at least 20 different sets of guys coming to chat her up. It looked like they were on a conveyor belt. My favourite part of the crowd is when anybody looks at you, you are instantly judged in a 2 second window. Mullins and I figured that every half an hour they throw out the uncoolest guy in the bar, and we would be #1 and #2 but we made the whole night. I can only assume some guys in sweat pants snuck in. The music was a practical carbon copy of the wedding mix I made back in June. Either I am ahead of the curve or they are 3 months behind it. Taxi cabs refuse to take you if you are going too short a distance, and then when one exiles you all the others lock their door because they know you are bad business. And when you get in a taxi they talk your ear off for 15 minutes about herbal supplements. I now know how to live forever and never get cancer by taking one pill. YES!! All that said...I love the big city and fit right in here. Thursday, October 05, 2006Falling BehindWell it appears my blogging has reached an all time low. It's a combination of my usual laziness and...well that's about it. Let's consult my thinking globe and remember what has been up... 1) Last Saturday I went to that wedding I got the haircut for. I had a lot of time and Kristina and Chris put on a great bash. Congratulations guys! (not that I think either of you reads this). I don't have any photos up yet but will try to get some up on my Shutterfly account this weekend. 2) Fall volleyball started up. So far 'The Juice' is 0-5 and the team I spared for on Wednesday went 0-5. YES!! The good news is team *yawn* was finally approved, with our premiere match up this coming Wednesday. Expect big things from these up and comers. 3) I watched the LOST season premiere tonight with a few friends. The first 5 minutes provided one of the biggest 'Holy F*ck!' moments of the show to date and I'm looking forward to another great (albeit completely different) season. In other TV news, my favourite new show is by and large 'Heroes'. You should definetly check this out, as I've heard from a few people who aren't into geek superhero fare as much as myself claim to enjoy it as well. 4) DVD players that play DIVX are amazing. I may never have to rent another movie in my whole life. Sorry movie industry. 5) On a serious note, it has recently come to my attention that our troops overseas are missing one of their favourite delicacies...the vietnamese noodle soup Pho. If you want to support our fighting men and women, head out to Chinatown, pick up a steaming bowl of pho to go and send it to Afghanistan. You'll feel better about yourself and some lucky soldier will get a taste of home they've been missing. ![]() 6) Somebody at work forwarded me this survey being done by a Phd student in the UK about Bloggers opinions on privacy. If you have a blog yourself, help out a struggling student and fill it out. Won't take but 10 minutes of your time. You're welcome Karen McCullagh!! http://www.ccsr.ac.uk/privacysurvey/
