Thursday, November 30, 2006I Am Not Dead...but I have had nothing exciting enough to post about. Christmas party season is approaching so I'm sure something awesome will happen to my awesome self. Keep on keeping on. I'll keep you posted. Peace! ![]() ![]() Wednesday, November 08, 2006Bob DylanLast Sunday I made the long trek out to Scotia Bank Place to see Bob Dylan in concert along with opening act the Foo Fighters performing an acoustic show. The ticket said doors at 7:30 so I assumed the earliest anybody would be on stage was 8. I took my time getting to Kanata, stopped for a coffee and donut, read the paper a bit and finally strolled to my seat around 7:45 only to find the Foo Fighters already performing. BLAST. I must have missed a song or two which was a terrible thing. I guess they opened the doors at 7:30 and gave people 5 minutes to run to their seats before they hit the stage. Anyway, they put on an incredible performance which actually made me go out and buy their new CD (which is a live acoustic performance), something I haven't done for ages thanks to technology (the "amazing" experience I had at Future Shop buying it is a story for another time…which I'll probably never tell). It was like a cabaret show with Dave Grohl taking time to talk with the audience and spin some yarns in between songs. A class act all around. It's amazing how the drummer from Nirvana has come so far as the lead man of his own band. After a 30 minute intermission, Bob Dylan hit the stage with Maggie's farm and then proceeded to go through a combination of old and new material. I assume his voice is shot at this point in his career, and he more so talked the lyrics into the microphone rather than attempt to keep some kind of melody. This was much more apparent on his old songs, perhaps due to the fact that he's tired of singing them after 40+ years. His material from his new album 'Modern Times' definetly brought out a few more signs of life in him. After about an hour and a half he took a little break and then came back with a huge encore of his new title track, Like a Rolling Stone and All Along the Watchtower. Despite the obvious signs of wear on his voice I enjoyed the concert immensely and was glad I decided to go. My only real complain is the complete lack of personality displayed by Dylan, including absolutely no interaction with the audience. It was like there was a two way mirror and he just pretended he was performing in the studio. Oh well…when you're a musical legend you are allowed your eccentricities. ![]() ![]()
