A Visit to Dr. Acula

Hello Internet!! I am continuing to enjoy my new digs at Blogger / Blogspot. Those who pay attention will see that I continue to tweak the stuff over on the side, with my most recent addition being the map of the world from Clustrmaps.com. It will keep track of where all my many vistors are coming from. I am contemplating a side site with mini reviews of books, movies and TV shows, but that sounds a bit too adventerous for me and will probably never happen. On a book related note, after starting as #196 in the queue, the library is finally about to ship me a copy of the Da Vinci Code. I'm actually not that interested in reading it, but I may as well give it a go and see why the world loves it so.

Tuesday after work I had a blood donor appointment. Every 12 weeks or so Canadian Blood Services comes to Tunney's Pasture and sets up a clinic. The thing is, you are eligible to donate every 8 weeks and I don't like that 4 week lag period, so I decided to go back to the permanent clinic on Carling Ave. This place is incredible. You get to sit in lazy boy chairs while you donate, and they have TVs you can watch. Plus the two times I have gone there hasn't been much of a wait. This kicks the ass of the fold out lawn chairs and 1+ hour it takes to donate at the Tunney's clinic. Another bonus is that I get Tim Horton's donuts after my donation (along with the usual juice and cookies provided at temporary clinics). If you're interested in donating, I recommend checking this place out.

Tuesday night I got together with Boris, Jenn and Klarka and watched four episodes of Veronica Mars season two. This show doesn't get much props up here in Canada since it's aired on UPN which not many markets have, but I highly recommend it. It's not the HBO / Showtime quality of series such as The Wire, Huff or Deadwood, but it's definetly in league with the best network stuff out there. It is particularly well liked by fans of Buffy and its ilk. Any of my peeps in the Ottawa region who are interested can give me a shout and I'll lend you season 1 on DVD.

Tonight I played volleyball with the same crew and Jeffrey and Shanna (a.k.a. Janice). We lost all three games, but had fun doing it. I blame our loss on 4 out of the 6 of us not wearing sunglasses to a match where we played 2 out of the 3 games staring at the sun. Our three hit style from the previous week fell apart and I got no good set ups to practice my smashes. I did get a couple decent blocks though, so my net game is improving. After the match up, we stopped at Pure Gelato on Elgin and had a couple scoops. It doesn't really compare to the abundant and delicious gelato I had in Italy, but it does in a pinch.
