Friday, June 30, 2006Important Library InformationAfter the perfect storm of two library books coming in at once, I looked into the situation and found out you can actually pause a request online and keep your place in queue. This would have been useful knowledge last week, but I was not smart enough to look into it then. The commenter who said I should give 'The Da Vinci Code' to a 6th grader was on the mark. It is the simplest written book I've read in a long time. It's a pretty interesting story, but there's no sentences longer than six words I think. Even the Harry Potter books had more complex sentence structures. The good news is that this allows me to tear through the book at lightning speed so I'm almost a quarter of the way through it already. I'm looking forward to finishing it so I can start 'In Cold Blood' which I have been a lot more curious to read. I saved it for second since it can often be found in the library's Express Read section where you can take out a popular book for one week with no renewals. If I don't finish it by the due date I plan to check it out of the express read section to finish it off. I had my thinking cap on when I made this decision. Last night we had an SSDC reunion dinner thing at the Royal Oak. I took this course four years ago and was amazed that over 12 people showed up for the dinner. I didn't make a reservation, and it was busy as hell so we had to stand around for a while waiting for a table but it worked out well. It was raining off and on all day, so after dinner the six of us left moved to the patio during an 'off' spell which kept turning back into 'on' spells throughout the night. I wasn't fortunate enough to be sitting under the umbrella, so I got a little wet. Ottawa has been having some strange weather this week with a lot of thunderstorms. We played some six person hearts which worked out suprisingly well. After that we went back to Purdy's to play poker. I am not a big fan of poker, but I easily cave into peer pressure so I played and lost my shirt (akak $5). I am a lot more comfortable at twoonie games and will not be playing this high stakes poker again in the near future. I don't have a lot of plans this weekend which is the way I want it. I have been burning the candle at both ends lately and am looking forward to a relaxing weekend. I am going for breakfast with Uhrbach tomorrow morning and then watching the England/Portugal match at my place. I'm not sure what I'm doing after that for the rest of Canada Day. Sunday evening I am going to a BBQ that Jake got me an invitation to. Other than that, I will play it by ear and see what comes up. Big Thanks go out to Beefy for helping me out with some html code. ![]() ![]()
