Wednesday, June 28, 2006More Birthdays and More Volleyball and More BooksI am debating quitting my Monday night volleyball team since I'm not getting much out of it (socially or volleyball wise), but I decided to give it one more shot this week. It was more or less the same as it always has been, but there's no game next week due to the long weekend so I figure I'll put off quitting one more week and see how I feel after that. I can't remember if we won 2-1 or lost 1-2. I don't pay much attention to stuff like that. After the game, I went over to my friend Kent's house (a.k.a. The Kenthouse) for the first time to watch the season (now series) finale of Showtime's 'Huff!'. This is one of the best shows on TV in my opinion, but underwatched which I guess is why it got cancelled after two seasons. Also present was fellow Methodologist Leon who happens to live in my building, but since I was coming from volleyball we didn't carpool. The show itself was good as always, but it was a little sad to watch knowing it was the last time I'd see these characters. I may pick up the first season on DVD soon, so it should be available for borrowing if anybody is interested. I also saw the last half of a movie called 'Fear of a Black Hat' which spoofs the 80's/90's rap scene, primarly N.W.A. It wasn't amazing, but had a few chuckles. I can think of a few people I know who might enjoy it. Yesterday was BigRig's Birthday (a.k.a. Mark), so Heidi invited the fellas to join them and A-train at the Urban Well for some Tapas. Unfortunately we were shocked to find out that they have been steadily jacking up their price of Tapas, and what used to be half priced appetizers are now in the range of 60-95% priced appetizers. Still, the food is delicious and most of us had the deep fried calamari and honey garlic wings. Heidi was generous enough to pick up our food tab which was incredibly nice of her. Purdy and Mullins plan to write her out cheques to pay her back, but I am willing to accept her generous gesture as just that. After dinner, I just came home and chilled out. I watched the movie 'Training Day' which I had sitting here for a while. It started out pretty decent, with a very 'The Shield' like quality of a good cop who does whatever to get the job done, but it eventually unravels into a cliche 'he's into problems with the Russian mob' type of story. YAWN. Still, it had promise and I enjoyed some parts quite a bit, so I give this movie 3 carrots out of 4. Today I had to leave work a bit early to renew my driver's licence since the place closes at 5. That went smoothly, and I hope I don't look like too much of a tourist in my photograph since I'll be stuck with it for three years. After that, I grabbed some groceries at Blah Blah's and headed home to eat something healthy and delicious. On my way to volleyball I stopped at the library to drop off a couple books and pick up 'The Da Vinci Code' which was waiting for me. I was shocked to find out that 'In Cold Blood' was also there for me. What a disaster. I put these on my request list back in April and was #200 or so for both. Now they have both hit at the same time, so I have three weeks to read them both since I surely can't renew such popular books. We lost all 3 games at volleyball but played fairly well against a tough team. I thought they were calling stations though and didn't enjoy playing them at all. They claimed that the winning team should keep the serve on the next game. I have never heard of this rule before, and even if it is the 'official' rule, it is the first time I've heard it in this league after playing in it for more than a year. Usually my team goes out to eat after playing but we couldn't agree on a place tonight so we said F it. I came home and started reading 'The Da Vinci Code'. It's the big version with pictures, so the 400+ pages shouldn't take that long to get through. I may actually have a shot at killing these books by the due date. Finally, I am going to play around with my template a bit in the near future, so if you ever come to my blog and it looks messed up, it is only temporary. ![]() ![]()
